Programme overview
The program "European Label" started in 1995 within the framework of the White Paper of the European Commission "Teaching and Learning: towards the learning society", which aims to help and all European citizens to hold three European languages.
The "European Label" is coordinated by the European Commission, but is managed on a decentralized basis by the Member States, plus Norway and Iceland, and the acceding countries. In Cyprus the responsibility of managing the program Label has the Foundation for Management of European Lifelong Learning Programs. The Commission funds national campaigns on the Label. Also it organizes European events including projects that have been awarded the Label. Also it provides financial support in order to help publicize the projects.
Goals and Objectives
The purpose of the "European Label" is to stimulate interest in language learning through innovative programs at all levels of education, from pre-school age up to adult education. It can be awarded to any initiative in teaching and learning languages, regardless of the type of institution.
The goal of the program is not the end result but the process and procedure under which the project is completed. Through the progress of project, assessment of the process and results must occur, find the reactions of stakeholders and identify weaknesses and strengths in an effort to improve the organization for a more successful implementation in the future.
Evaluation
The distinction "European Label" is awarded based on criteria of a committee appointed by each participating country. Label logo can be posted on the premises and documents of the candidates.
