The Comenius programme focuses on school education from pre-school up to secondary level and has the following objectives:
  • To develop knowledge and understanding among young people and educational staff of the diversity of European cultures and languages and its value
  • To help young people acquire the basic life-skills and competences necessary for their personal development , for future employment and for active European citizenship
  • To improve the quality and to increase the volume of mobility involving pupils and educational staff in different Member States
  • To improve the quality and to increase the volume of partnerships between schools in different Member States
  • To encourage the learning of modern foreign languages
  • To enhance the quality of European dimension of teacher training
Who can participate?


Basically everyone involved in school education:


  • Schools providing special, general, vocational or technical education
  • pupils in pre-school and school education up to the end of upper secondary level
  • teachers, support staff and administrative staff of school education
  • future teachers
  • educational authorities at local, regional and national level
  • higher educational institutions/organisations that provide teacher training or are involved in the school education sector

  • Regio Partnerships
  • Preparatory Visits
  • In-Service Training for Teachers and other Educational Staff
  • Assistantships (ASSISTANTS)

CENTRALISED ACTIONS


Apart from the above-mentioned decentralized Comenius actions, the European Commission funds the following centralised actions:
  • Multilateral Projects
  • Multilateral Networks
  • Accompanying Measures
